BARSCAPADES IN ACTION

The Failford Inn

About the Venue

2003 - 2010 The Failford Inn is a rural pub in South Ayrshire, Scotland. When my partner and I purchased it we saw the potential in it, it had immediate kerb appeal despite low trading figures.

We built the restaurant trade up while introducing cask ale, which became our real USP with very few other venues in the area offering it. In 2006 we added our own microbrewery and grew the business around the beer and food offering with beer festivals, food and beer matched menus, tutored tastings and brewery tours.

I ran all the front of house operations, the brewery and marketing while my partner headed up the kitchen and handled the accounting side.

Challenge

To revitalise a rural community pub that was hanging on by a thread.

Solution

I implemented comprehensive marketing campaigns, including social media promotions and tailored on-site events to grow awarenedss of the venue. The bar team received personalised training to elevate the guest experience and once the brewery was operational, to help them select a beer. This ensured that whether pre-booked or spontaneous visitors, all guests were greeted and cared for with high-quality service in both the bar and restaurant.

Results

  • Turnover tripled rapidly.

  • Positive feedback from both new and returning customers, enhancing the pub’s local reputation.

  • The brewery won a sheaf of awards for it’s beers.

  • The Failford Inn was awarded the 2006 CAMRA Scottish Pub Of The Year and runner-up in the National Pub Of The Year.
